Work Experience
Direct Support Professional, RISE, January 2016 - June 2016
- Give direct, in-home support to children with special needs, primarily autism, based on specialized plan created by behavioral analyst
- Teach life skills and work to further the individual’s independence and community integration
- Teach multiple elementary school classes a garden-based curriculum about nutrition, plants, and gardening to inspire interest in science and engineering
- Work with staff and volunteers to create fun and educational experience for kids
- Help train new volunteers
- Coordinate with other staff to setup, takedown, and prepare overnight activities for mixed age groups ranging from 20 to 100 individuals
- Prepare food, take groups on guided tours in a timely manner, and actively supervise families experiencing the zoo after usual closing hours
- Teach a group of elementary school campers under the supervision of the Zoo Camp Director
- Utilize the zoo and surrounding park to introduce campers to animals and nature through science projects, art, games, exploration, and observation
- Follow Department Operating Principals and Zoo Camp Protocols
- Supervised activities for large groups of mixed age kids
- Ensure children were dropped off and picked up by approved adults
Volunteer/Intern Experience

- Educate students at Lane County school gardens about nutrition, plants, and gardening to inspire interest in science and engineering
- Use garden produce to prepare meals with students
- Lead guided tours to educate children about surrounding natural areas in Eugene, its history, geography, geology, plants, animals and its current inhabitants
- Coordinate with Zoo Camp Director and teachers to organize, pre-plan, and prepare for each week of zoo camp
- Educate the public about the environment in a professional manner as a representative of my employers
- Maintenance of the animals and enclosures
- Manage volunteer community and help train and supervise new volunteers
