Restoring Connections 2016
I took part of a team called Restoring Connections 2016 with is part of a larger University of Oregon group called the Environmental Leadership Program.
The Environmental Leadership Program is a multifaceted opportunity for college undergraduate and graduate students to learn more about environmental issues in the world today, from irrigation to wetlands to environmental education, and create projects that address these issues. Whether it is outreach or education, these projects directly address community issues and create strong partnerships that have lasted years. I gained leadership, organization, communication, presentation, problem solving, adaptability and research skills. Working with community partners, I gained hands-on experiences in the field and professional guidance.
Restoring Connections is a two term project where I learned about how to create an environmental based curriculum and then implemented for Adams elementary school at Mount Pisgah. My role was to be a supportive and productive team member, leader, and communicator. By getting students out of the classroom and into their surrounding environment, we helped them create empathy for and restore their connections to the natural world around them.
